Del Bosque: Spain Must Recover After WC Fallout

Spain coach, Vicente del Bosque, has insisted La Roja must recover from their disappointing World Cup fallout.
Del Bosque’s side faces France in their first friendly after the World Cup and the 63-year-old has rung the changes, calling up eight new faces while Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso and David Villa retired from international football.
“We have started a new stage and eight players who were not involved in the World Cup finals have been brought on board,” he said in his pre-match press conference.
“I hope that we can make right the choices in the new era too.
“Before, it was a question of managing a successful side and now it’s more about how to deal with the fallout of the defeat in Brazil.”
Del Bosque admitted that France may have overtaken Spain in the pecking order, but is hopeful his side can put in a good display to regain their balance after the shocking group stage exit in Brazil.
“It’s possible that we have switched places. France were knocked out in the quarter finals by Germany, who went on to win the trophy and they has a good tournament.
“Spain crashed out in the group stage. France are a strong side which has maintain a stable squad. They are improving in terms of their game and their results.
“(The France game) is a meeting with one of the world’s top teams and Spain is an unknown force after what happened in Brazil; so we will be looking to regain our balance.”
Spain will take on France tonight at 20:45.

Driver used rope to kill himself

Gerald Mellin left a note with his funeral wishes, the inquest heard A depressed businessman going through a divorce decapitated himself by tying a rope to a tree and driving away in his open-top car, an inquest has heard. Gerald Mellin, 54, of Neath, showed the rope to his 33-year-old wife two weeks earlier when he had asked her to quit their business and their farmhouse. He cancelled his life insurance and ran up debts because he wanted to leave her "with nothing," the hearing was told. Swansea coroner Phillip Rogers recorded a verdict of suicide. Mr Mellin's widow Mirrielle told the hearing she had won a court order the day before her husband's suicide for an extra £100 a week from him to help with the running of the house.
