Real Madrid; Benzema: Ronaldo & Zidane Were Also Booed
Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, has said that being booed is part of the game and even greats like Ronaldo and Zidane had to endure the same thing.
The Frenchman has been subjected to some negative reactions from home fans in recent weeks due to his inability to find the back of the net, but says that these things are just part of the game.
“I am at a big club and there is always a lot expected of me,” the 26-year-old told Radio Montecarlo.
“I am a Real Madrid striker and that means I have to score in every game. That’s the way it is. I was booed last season. Iker Casillas has been booed. All of the great players who have played for Madrid have been booed: Ronaldo, Zidane...
“For me it’s not a problem. I will continue to work hard to change the situation. We’ll talk about what I’ve won when my career is over.
“I play for a huge club. I know there is a lot of expectation. I’ve even been booed in the Stade de France. I don’t let it get to me. I just concentrate on playing; I love football and I’m at the best club in the world.”
The striker concluded the interview by assuring fans that his club have what it takes to turn around their difficult start to the season.
“We have lost two consecutive games in the league, so there’s always going to be a little bit of tension. But this was the Champions League," he added.
"We had the heart to show that we can win and we were the better team. That’s what we do.”
Benzema then spoke about his Champions League goalscoring record after netting his 37th goal in the competition, pushing him one goal clear of Real Madrid legend, Ferenc Puskas to 14th on the all-time European goalscoring charts.
