Mourinho Worried About Costa
Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, says Diego Costa is not in a condition to play three games per week and that’s why he didn’t start in the 1-1 Champions League draw against Schalke.
Costa scored an impressive seven goals in his first four Premier League games, but is fighting with recurring injury problems since the end of last season.
"Costa has a problem," Mourinho said after the game.
"He came to us (from Atletico) and he was completely fine. He had a problem again in the national team, not with us.
"If he has one week to let the muscle recover he can start a game. Playing on Saturday, three days is not enough for him to recover.
"It was not to protect for the game Sunday, it was because he was not in condition to start the game.
"Now we have the problem and now we have to resolve the problem the best we can.
"He was not in condition to play. Sunday we believe he is.
"Next week against Bolton (in the Capital One Cup), for sure he isn't. We have to manage the situation until the moment he's completely fine."
Chelsea twice beat Schalke 3-0 last term but saw Cesc Fabregas' first Blues goal cancelled out by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Mourinho rued the missed chances by his side, who failed to put the game to dead, as reason for the draw.
"I think we had great chances to score the second goal," he added.
"I remember clearly Fabregas in the first half and Didier (Drogba) in the second half.
"2-0 the game is over and probably we are speaking about three or four, but we didn't and that's football.
"In the second half they scored and we had a good reaction so nothing to complain with my players, nothing at all."
