Euro 2016 Qualifiers: Spain Thrash Macedonia

Spain were in a rampant mood, as they thrashed Macedonia 5-1 in their 2016 European Championship qualifier at the Mestalla.

La Rojo were looking to bounce back from their 1-0 to defeat to France on Sunday night, as they begun the defence of the European Championship title.

The home side went ahead in the 15th minute through Sergio Ramos' cheeky penalty after David Silva was brought down in the area.

Two minutes later and the Spanish doubled their lead, Juanfran delightfully picked out Paca Alcacer, who rifled the ball into an empty net.

However, Macedonia pulled one back in the 28th minute thanks to Agim Ibraimi's penalty, after Juanfran recklessly brought down Trajkovski inside the box.

Vicente del Bosque's men managed to restore their two-goal cushion just before the halftime break courtesy of Sergio Busquets' deflected effort from the edge of the area.

Five minutes after the restart, the hosts got their fourth of the night, as Silva played a neat one-two with Jordi Alba before rifling the ball into the bottom corner.

Cesc Fabregas nearly got his name on the score sheet in the 58th minute, but the midfielder's powerful strike from the edge of the area cannoned off the woodwork.

Pedro completed the rout in stoppage time, the Barcelona winger latched onto an inch perfect through ball from Silva before lobbing the the Macedonia goalkeeper.
