Pirlo To Continue International Career
Juventus play-maker, Andrea Pirlo, has claimed that he will continue to play at International level, after he spoke with new Italy coach, Antonio Conte.
The 35-year-old hinted at retiring from international football following his country’s group stage exit at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, but will continue his 12-year spell with the national team at the request of his former coach at Juventus.
"I have been talking with (Antonio) Conte who asked me if I was ready to play again for the Azzurri and I told him that I was," Pirlo told Gazzetta TV.
"It was a difficult decision to take. I had wanted to stop playing for the national side but he (Conte) took over and he asked me to lend a hand. I am happy to do that and we are hopeful we can achieve great things together."
Pirlo, who is currently side-lined with a hip injury, worked for three seasons under Conte at Juventus, where both of them won the Italian Serie A in each of those campaigns.
Conte replaced the departed Cesare Prandelli, who resigned from the post after Italy’s exit from the World Cup. Pirlo has earned 112 caps for Italy and has scored 13 goals and won the World Cup in 2006.
