UEFA Europa League: Spurs Claim A Point In Belgrade

Tottenham Hotspur started their UEFA Europa League campaign with 0-0 draw against FK Partizan at the Partizan Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino gave debuts to defenders, Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli, while Harry Kane started upfront ahead of Roberto Soldado.

Harry Kane almost gave Spurs the lead as early as the first minute but the striker's effort from a tight angle was kept out by the crossbar.

Partizan almost broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, as Lazovic got on the end of a long-throw-in, turned his marker but saw his eventual effort blocked by Spurs defender, Fazio.

The home side had a chance to take the lead minutes after the halftime break, as Lazovic broke clear on the left to tee up Petar Grbic, who fired a tame effort straight at Hugo Lloris.

Lloris was proving to be the busier of the two goalkeepers, this time keeping out Lakovic's in-swinging effort from 25-yards out in the 61st minute.

Grbic should have opened the scoring in the 77th minute, as he was picked at the back post with a delightful cross, however he managed head well wide of the target from close range.

Neither side looked like breaking the deadlock in the closing stages of the half, as sides were forced to share the spoils.

Driver used rope to kill himself

Gerald Mellin left a note with his funeral wishes, the inquest heard A depressed businessman going through a divorce decapitated himself by tying a rope to a tree and driving away in his open-top car, an inquest has heard. Gerald Mellin, 54, of Neath, showed the rope to his 33-year-old wife two weeks earlier when he had asked her to quit their business and their farmhouse. He cancelled his life insurance and ran up debts because he wanted to leave her "with nothing," the hearing was told. Swansea coroner Phillip Rogers recorded a verdict of suicide. Mr Mellin's widow Mirrielle told the hearing she had won a court order the day before her husband's suicide for an extra £100 a week from him to help with the running of the house.
