UEFA Champions League Report: Roma, Porto Delight In Champions League

Roma and Porto were in fine form in their respective UEFA Champions League matches with both teams scoring almost at will in their opening group games on Wednesday night.

Ivorian international Gervinho bagged a brace as Roma thumped CSKA Moskva 5-1 in a Group E match at the Stadio Olimpico.

The result combined with Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win over Manchester City sees Roma at the top of Group E after one game played, followed by the German side in second, the English side in third and CSKA Moskva at the bottom.

Porto were in similar form as Roma with a 6-0 thumping of BATE in a Group H match at the Estadio Do Dragao.

Yacine Brahimi was the star of the night in Portugal with a hat-trick that sees his side at the top of Group H following Athletic Club and Shakhtar Donestk’s 0-0 draw at the San Mamés Barria. Bate are bottom of the group.

Barcelona were less impressive in their Group F match against APOEL at the Estadio Camp Nou.

A 28th minute goal from Gerard Pique handed Barcelona the only win in Group E after Ajax Amsterdam and Paris Saint-Germain played to a 1-1 draw at the Amsterdam Arena.

The win sees Barcelona at the top of Group E, followed by Ajax and PSG on a point while APOEL are bottom.

Group G failed to produce any winners as both Chelsea versus Schalke 04 and Maribor versus Sporting CP ended 1-1.
