Alonso: Bayern As Good As Madrid

New Bayern Munich midfielder, Xabi Alonso, believes that his new club will be able to challenge his old club, Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Alonso completed his move to the German champions last week and, after making his debut against Schalke on the weekend. He was unveiled to the press today as the club's new number 3.
"I have always followed the Bundesliga, especially over the past year. It seems as though the atmosphere and the level keeps on increasing," Alonso told Marca.
"I had good experiences in the Premier League and La Liga and there is no better club than Bayern to experience something new in the Bundesliga.”
Alonso went on to comment about his former club’s loss to another former club in the form of Real Sociedad over the weekend, before commenting on the Champions League.
"I was very surprised by the result. After Madrid's great start Sociedad pushed and managed to turn the result around. It was a strange feeling to see my old teammates playing without me. But it was a strange result,' he added.
"(The Champions League) is the trophy everybody wants to win. I have been lucky to win it with two clubs and it would be amazing to win it with a third. It's a long road, but without doubt it is our objective."
The 32-year-old then went on to describe the challenge of adapting to a new club, before drawing comparisons between Bayern and Real Madrid.

"I want to prove to myself that I am ready for this and to show my best level at Bayern. To be part of this team and play in the Bundesliga was a huge motivation for me, as was working with Pep. I know him very well from games against Barcelona.
"It's difficult (to compare Bayern and Real Madrid). They both have great squads with different playing styles.
"I can adapt to both models. My time at Madrid helped me to grow and become a better player, and I will try to do that here as well. I have no doubt that my new team can challenge my old one.”
Alonso will hope to become the second man to win the Champions League with three different teams after Clarence Seedorf achieved the feat with Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Driver used rope to kill himself

Gerald Mellin left a note with his funeral wishes, the inquest heard A depressed businessman going through a divorce decapitated himself by tying a rope to a tree and driving away in his open-top car, an inquest has heard. Gerald Mellin, 54, of Neath, showed the rope to his 33-year-old wife two weeks earlier when he had asked her to quit their business and their farmhouse. He cancelled his life insurance and ran up debts because he wanted to leave her "with nothing," the hearing was told. Swansea coroner Phillip Rogers recorded a verdict of suicide. Mr Mellin's widow Mirrielle told the hearing she had won a court order the day before her husband's suicide for an extra £100 a week from him to help with the running of the house.
